At the age of 10, Eliza and her two sisters were forced to undergo female genital mutilation (FGM). Her mother, a cutter, makes a living by performing FGM on girls in the Kurian community, even though the practice is illegal in their country.

Now, age 17, Eliza has a daughter of her own and finds herself at odds with her family for not wanting to follow in the cultural tradition of FGM.
